College Life in America

Ok, so college in America is difficult. College and university are pretty interchangeable by the way. So, to get into college you have to take the SATs or the ACTs. These are standardized tests that test your ability to remember what you learned throughout high school. It is usually taken junior year of high school but others do take it during their senior year as well. Different states do different things. Like in Arizona where I’m from we are told to do the SAT but you can do the ACT too. While in Tennessee, well at least in Memphis, they are told to take the ACT.  So once that is done and you get your grade, you can redo it or start sending to universities that you are interested in. Personally I was average ranking, whatever. I would’ve done better but I didn’t even study to be honest. I was too busy focusing on the homework I had in hand I was so stressed I decided just to do community college. I’m totally serious, I really said F it and was near stress free and I don’t regret it.

Anyways, enough about my nonsense. So, during high school many try to get scholarships as well but you can definitely start doing it once you get into college as well. It doesn’t matter. You can also get some free money with a Federal Grant or any other grants, which you don’t have to pay back. However, you get a student loan,be careful. Take what you need because you have to pay back double the amount you receive. The school can offer you a loan or you can get some from banks that do students loans. Try to get a subsidized loan if you can. It can help while you are in school.

Yes, parties do happen at sororities and fraternities but they also do charities and volunteer work as well. Not only that, but joining one can help you wherever you are. You need a job maybe the interviewer was apart of your sorority. Automatic connection and you got the job if you qualify because they must help their brothers and sisters. Also if you go to a party got to be careful because people do get raped and taken advantage of. Don’t drink just anything that is handed to you no matter the pressure, if you get pressured. There are so many clubs and organizations to join to make your resume look better or to gain some friends.  Also, there are so many places to make you comfortable and most people mind their business and go about their day. I’m serious you can ride an elephant to school, use toilet paper as a blanket and people will keep it pushing. Too much work to be doing to worry about why you running around with a parrot on your shoulder and why you eating slice cheese out of a cup with a knife.

If you’re an international student or studying abroad in America. There are programs that you integrate with life and meet other people in your situation and natives where you are studying at.

People commute to school in every way possible. If they could land a plane on the property people would get to college by flying. I’m sure once they become cheaper people will hover board to school if they aren’t already.

There’s a gym, pool, and other activites that you can do and get into for physical fitness. It really depends on the college. Just give them a call and they’ll direct you to who you need to talk to.  There’s a cafeteria area where you can eat food and all types of yummy food and drinks.

Ok so you’ll spend most of your time doing homework. So if your laptop is not your bestie it will be. I know mine is. It also depends on your major like mine is business and it’s not too bad. It’s not like my friend who is in nursing school who has 5 papers due all in one day. It has definitely affected her sleep pattern. Well, I’m chilling and not stressing too much. I mean my ex-co worker (nursing school) boyfriend is getting his masters in Management or whatever and she does some of his homework for him. A nurse doing a business major homework without problems. So, I’m good for right now. Especially since I start my work right away these days. I also tend to be able to write a lot hehe.

Overall university is fun and stressful or just stressful but it’s up to you and what you are doing.

More Money More Belly

As a nation we’re pretty greedy.  There is no denial in that. I’m telling you. Companies are very money hungry and will do anything to get more. They tend to not take responsibilities of their actions on how they got so rich. For instance, paying people cheap wages and then turning around saying American jobs are being taken. No, labor is cheaper elsewhere so you’re not trying to hire here and less people would buy the products. If labor was done here in America then prices on goods would definitely go up. Not only that but nothing is given for free even scraps. We waste millions of food and companies don’t donate the leftovers to shelter that need it. They just throw it away in landfills. It seems that they think if they give their products out free then maybe people will expect to pay lower prices which is not the case or they want to sell what they have and rather throw it out than to give it to people who need it but can’t pay. Companies work us hard but give us little pay that barely pay bills. For instance, my boss asked me to work a double for tomorrow, when I already working everyday so another girl can get a week vacation. I agreed to do so for minimum wage which is 7.25. On top of that I’m suppose to go to the bank since I have a car despite it acting up (I’m going to have to tell him that) and wait in line, like that’s a manager’s job, so get one. On top of that he wants me to work a double at a different location. So, I’ll wake up early drive 30 min or more to a store I’ve never been to then after I work 7hrs drive another 20 min to the other store that I really work at and work another 7 hours. All that for 7.25. I don’t think so, I will not. They will squeeze every inch of sweat off of you to get there money worth and complain about increasing your pay. Hmmmm.

Food in Memphis

Since, I’m currently in Memphis. I will be writing about this state the most until I graduate with my bachelors :). Memphis is known for its barbecue and its not hard to find some good barbecue so I’m going to talk about a food that I like and hard to find. Ethiopian food!  Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant! Hmm, my first time trying it was a good experience. The owner seemed suspicious  since he never saw us before but I’ve gone back again and he has warmed up hahah. Most people are like that since I look like a teenager and there was a older crowd coming in so I was the only youngin in the building with my little friend.  Anyways, it’s a seat yourself place and it’s small very small. I saw maybe 11 tables. When first going in you can tell it definitely needs some work but the tables and chairs and utensil are very nice. The overall decorations were making me think how sanitary can this place be, but then I remembered the most cleanest looking restaurant can be the most disgusting but that’s another story for later. 20160129_160234

I ordered the lamb and the veggie plate which our two different platters. OMG, those beets were delicious. Like I can’t wait for the summer because those beets were so refreshing it was like drinking water in the middle of the Arizona desert. I was so shocked it was my first time eating beets too, so it was like wow! They were sweet but not like fruit sweet or anything but sweet nonetheless. That was what stood out the most. My friend LOVES the bread called injera. So, you put all the veggies in it and roll it like a burrito and eat. At least that’s what I do. If you do what I do then then you can definitely share it between you and another friend. It cost us around $20 maybe a little more.

So the lamb and jalapeno is in the middle surrounded by the beets, potatoes, split peas, lentils, cabbage, string beans, and other veggies (forgot what they were) and all of this is on top of injera and you get injera on the side as well in a basket. It’s a must to try and it’s locally owned.

They also have a buffet from Mon- Thursday or Friday before 1 but I’ll have to clarify on that when I go back.

When looking for this place make sure you look closely its hard to spot because its in a tiny blue plaza right next to a restaurant called rock live house.

I want to write about every place that I’ve been. I also would like to share some information about them from a tourist or native view. I work at a hotel and somany people ask me so many questions as well as pen pals that I have about certain states or the state that I live in So far I’ve been to 5 states. Arizona (born and raised), California, Nevada(Las Vegas only), and Tennessee (Memphis only), and Mississippi . I got 45 more to go haha. I started this blog for my pen pal who had all these questions and now that I have free time again I’m back at talking about America again from a native and tourist view.

So enjoy!
